Bone cement is an established and well studied carrier for local antibiotic administration beyond the fixation purpose. It is widely used in prevention and in the context of treatment of Periprosthetic Joint Infections.
But how and why does this work? What is the difference between low dose single antibiotic and higher dose dual antibiotic-loaded bone cements? What outcome can we expect? Which patients benefit? And is all bone cement the same? Let’s discuss in this symposium these and other questions.
In particular, we will address the topic when and in which situations it makes sense to use bone cement loaded with antibiotic combinations.
The panel of international experts will present the underlying principles, discuss what we can conclude from available data and recent studies and share their own clinical experience.
