Symposium: "New thoughts in changing clinical practice in stem fixation of hip arthroplasty."
In hip arthroplasty, clinical situation and treatment practice differ greatly between individual countries in Europe. Nevertheless, studies and registries worldwide seem to agree that with regards to fixation method the cemented hip stem offers advantages for elderly patients in both elective and acute (femoral neck fractures) hip arthroplasty. We will in the symposium look at the paradox and understand the local barriers and concerns which keep many surgeons from cementing hip stems and see what needs to be done to manage the change of practice.
Finally, the session will discuss the role of education and training in this process and offer tips for a reproduceable methodical cementing technique to further improve the clinical outcome.
The symposium includes two impulse lectures as a starting point for intense
expert discussions, cases studies and interactive questions from the audience.
